Harvesting green peppers and hot peppers
24 of October 2011
It’s getting colder and colder, and I am realizing there will not be time for the sweet peppers to ripen. So I harvested many of them green tonight. Sad to not get to see them get ripe, but I’d rather have them green than not at all.
There is still more to harvest. The hot peppers are continuing to ripen, though they are also late, and we are getting quite a small harvest as compared to usual.

Hot peppers grown in Earth Boxes -- Mix of Rocotillo, Kung Pao, Sport, Big Bomb, Pepperoncini and somewhere a single Pimento de Padron.

Building beds for my square foot garden
31 of January 2009
Hi,
Here are some photos from the building of my beds for my square foot garden. Don’t know what square foot gardening is?
It is a very effective way of growing more in a smaller area. Please see the link at the bottom of this post for more information.
Here I am, starting on my very first squares, back in 2006.
Just measuring and laying out here
The digging starts:
Now we made the big mistake, we built the beds using these tiles. All well and good it seemed, until the first winter, when they all froze and cracked and had to be replaced with cedar wood.
We built a total of four 4X4 squares this first year, using the tiles
Having moved on, and having replaced the tiles with cedar wood, now it’s on to building longer beds. These are 12X4.
This is how deep I dig
Here are the two long beds, finished:
A little later, all planted in:
And later in the season, all grown up:
